Col. Edith Nakalema Unveils Book Honoring Late Father

Col. Edith Nakalema, a prominent figure in the State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU), recently launched a new book titled “My Father and I: The Power of Intentional Fatherhood.” The launch event, held at Protea Hotel Kampala, was graced by the Vice President of Uganda, H.E. Jessica Alupo.

The book serves as a tribute to Col. Nakalema’s late father, Rev. Eliasaph Sserwadda, who was an Anglican priest and community servant for over five decades. He dedicated his life to God, the Church, and his community, leaving a significant impact.

Vice President Alupo lauded Col. Nakalema for her efforts in preserving her father’s memory and highlighting his contributions. She emphasized the importance of honoring one’s parents, noting that it reflects maturity and responsibility. “In Africa, when one says you are a good child, it demonstrates maturity, responsibility and, most importantly, steadfastness in maintaining humanity,” the Vice President remarked.

Proceeds generated from the sale of “My Father and I” will be channeled towards the ongoing construction of All Saints Church, Kanyeganyegye, in Kashari, which is being built in memory of Rev. Sserwadda. The Vice President also conveyed a pledge of Shs20 million from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni towards the church’s completion.

Col. Nakalema described her father as an inspiration, instilling in her values of faith and discipline. She shared that Rev. Sserwadda considered parenthood a sacred duty and built their family life on love, faith, and service, even amidst limited financial resources. She highlighted his commitment to ensuring all his five children received university education and became responsible citizens.

The book also touches upon Rev. Sserwadda’s dedication to hard work and humility, citing examples of his manual labor to support his family. The Rev. Sserwadda Foundation was established post-demise to continue his legacy of service, contributing to the church’s construction.

Distinguished guests, including religious leaders and government officials, attended the event, celebrating the life of Rev. Sserwadda and supporting the completion of the church project. The launch underscored the profound influence of intentional fatherhood and the enduring power of parental legacy.
