Mukono Theft: Police Arrest Two, Recover Stolen Pistol and Vehicle

Authorities in Mukono Municipality have made significant strides in a recent aggravated theft case, arresting two suspects and recovering crucial items, including a pistol that was stolen from a government engineer. The breakthrough came after a reported robbery in Upper Nabuti Cell on July 1, 2026.

According to police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, the suspects gained access to a home by deceiving a housemaid. They posed as individuals sent by the homeowner to collect a television for repair, a tactic that allowed them entry.

Once inside, the perpetrators made off with a substantial haul, including three television sets, Shs10 million in cash, a CCTV digital video recorder (DVR), a mobile phone, and a metallic safe that contained the stolen pistol. The group reportedly fled the scene in a white Toyota Noah vehicle.

Investigators have since recovered the vehicle and a motorcycle believed to have been used by the suspects during the commission of the crime. The firearm, confirmed to belong to a government engineer, has also been returned to authorities.

Rusoke highlighted the increasing trend of criminals employing deceptive tactics to infiltrate private residences. He urged the public, particularly homeowners and domestic staff, to exercise caution and verify any requests involving the removal of property by unknown individuals. Confirming such instructions directly with the homeowner is advised to prevent similar incidents.

Investigations are ongoing as police work to identify and apprehend any potential accomplices involved in the aggravated theft. Additional leads are being pursued as part of the continuing inquiry.
