Police in Mukono Municipality have made significant strides in a recent aggravated theft case, arresting two suspects and recovering crucial evidence, including a pistol believed to belong to a government engineer. The arrests are a result of a robbery that occurred on July 1, 2026, in Mukono District.
According to police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, the suspects were apprehended after investigators traced their movements and recovered the vehicle and motorcycle allegedly used during the crime. The stolen firearm was also found in their possession.
The incident unfolded when unknown assailants tricked a housemaid into granting them access to a residence in Upper Nabuti Cell. The criminals posed as individuals sent by the homeowner to collect a television for repair. Once inside, they proceeded to steal multiple items, including three television sets, Shs10 million in cash, a CCTV DVR, a mobile phone, and a metallic safe that contained the pistol.
Rusoke highlighted that the perpetrators escaped in a white Toyota Noah vehicle. He also noted a concerning trend of criminals increasingly employing deception as a tactic to gain entry into homes, emphasizing the need for vigilance.
“Criminals are increasingly exploiting deception to gain entry into homes and commit theft. We encourage the public to verify such requests before granting access in order to prevent similar incidents,” Rusoke stated. He urged homeowners and domestic workers to exercise caution and always confirm such requests directly with the property owner before allowing any unfamiliar individuals access to their homes or property.
Investigations are ongoing, with law enforcement actively pursuing leads to identify any potential accomplices and recover any remaining stolen property. The successful recovery of the pistol and other items marks a positive development in the case.
