Upcoming musicians shouldn’t anticipate immediate stardom simply by joining a record label, according to Ugandan artist Vinka.

Speaking on a recent YouTube podcast, Vinka highlighted that while record labels make significant investments in artists, the ultimate success hinges on the individual musician’s dedication and proactive efforts.

“Someone has gambled on your talent. They don’t know if their money will come back or not. They’ll invest, but everything comes back to you,” Vinka stated, stressing the importance of personal branding. “You have to build your brand, the way you want people to see you and what will sell you out there.”

Vinka explained that record labels provide crucial resources, including music production, promotion, styling, and songwriting support. However, she iterated that it is the artist’s responsibility to leverage these opportunities effectively.
