The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has significantly ramped up its preparations for the upcoming general elections by hosting a crucial strategy meeting in Kampala. This event specifically targeted aspiring and incumbent women leaders from across the country, aiming to bolster their effectiveness in elective politics.

The gathering, held at the NRM party headquarters, was jointly spearheaded by National Treasurer Barbara Nekesa Oundo and Director of Mobilisation Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde. Officials stated the session is a key component of a larger strategy to enhance the leadership capabilities of women, improve their readiness for electoral campaigns, and deepen their understanding of the electoral process.

Ambassador Nekesa emphasized that women are indispensable to the NRM and national development, playing a central role in political mobilization and governance. “Women are the backbone of our communities and our movement,” she stated, adding that the NRM is committed to equipping them with the necessary tools and confidence to contest and win at all political levels. She highlighted that empowering women is vital for strengthening both the party and national decision-making.

Dr. Seninde, a seasoned figure in grassroots mobilization, urged women leaders to shift towards “politics of preparation” rather than “politics of chance.” She advised them to concentrate on issue-based campaigns, cultivate strong community networks, and leverage digital platforms for voter outreach. Effective mobilization, communication skills, and a firm grasp of electoral laws were identified as critical for success.

The discussions covered a range of essential topics, including electoral laws, nomination procedures, campaign finance strategies, public speaking, media engagement, and the importance of building robust support networks within party structures and constituencies. Participants also openly discussed the challenges women face in politics, such as cultural stereotypes, financial hurdles, and limited access to campaign infrastructure.

This initiative aligns with the NRM’s overarching goal to increase female representation in leadership and foster inclusive governance, further cementing the empowerment of women politicians as a core element of the party’s long-term development agenda. The NRM plans to conduct further capacity-building workshops in the coming months to sustain these election preparations. This training initiative is a vital step in ensuring women leaders are well-prepared for the upcoming polls.
