Kibuli Grand Mosque was the focal point over the weekend as a massive congregation assembled for the 2026 annual commemoration of Prince Nuuhu Mbogo Kyabasinga. The event celebrated the Prince’s return from exile and his pivotal role in expanding Islam across Uganda.
The mosque’s grounds were filled to capacity, with attendees ranging from the elderly and young girls to esteemed scholars and community leaders, reflecting the nationwide importance of the gathering.

Supreme Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Muhammad Galabuzi, addressed the worshipers, emphasizing a new era of unity and progress for the Kibuli Muslim community. He stated, “There are no longer any conflicts at Kibuli. Our focus now is on unity and development.” He also addressed concerns about the mixing of halal and haram meat, promising swift action. Sheikh Galabuzi also spoke out against “prom parties held in schools,” deeming them un-Islamic and a promoter of immorality.
Guest of Honour, Prince Kasim Nakibinge, delved into Prince Nuuhu Mbogo’s life story, detailing his exile, triumphant return, and significant efforts in promoting Islamic practices and attire nationwide. Prince Nakibinge noted that this commemoration, observed for over 130 years, fosters mutual love and unity irrespective of political affiliations.
Prince Nakibinge also acknowledged the government’s efforts in appointing Muslims to senior roles, while advocating for greater inclusivity. He further commented on human rights violations, urging legal adherence in dealing with criminals.
Guest preacher Prince Ali Kachope lauded Prince Mbogo’s unwavering dedication to Islam’s growth in Uganda, stating his life’s work “deserves to be honored and remembered.”
Organizers deemed the 2026 commemoration a resounding success, attributing the large turnout to the prevailing “peace, unity, and solidarity among Muslims.” The event concluded with prayers for Prince Nuuhu Mbogo, seeking divine blessings for his soul.
