Authorities in the Thai resort city of Pattaya have arrested an Australian national, Simon Peter Carman, in connection with the death of a 17-year-old girl. The victim’s body was found “stuffed” inside a suitcase discarded near a railway line in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Carman was taken into custody at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok as he was reportedly preparing to flee Thailand. He faces charges of murder, as well as other offenses related to the concealment of a body and alleged sexual activity with a minor.

The 17-year-old, identified in local media as Tunchanok Donhomla, had been reported missing on Friday afternoon. Pattaya City Police reviewed CCTV footage that allegedly showed Carman entering a condominium with the teenager and later exiting alone, carrying a large suitcase. The footage also reportedly showed him transporting the bag on a motorbike towards the railway line.

Upon his arrest, Carman denied the charges, stating via a recorded message to the victim’s family that he “feel[s] bad for what happened” and that the events were “out of my control.” He also claimed to have acted in self-defense. The victim’s father expressed deep sadness, while her step-mother called for the suspect to face full legal consequences.

Officers discovered the teenager’s body less than two hours after she was reported missing. The investigation is ongoing.
