Tusker Lite's Rwenzori Marathon Becomes Kasese's Tourism Catalyst

The annual Rwenzori Marathon, powered by Tusker Lite, has significantly boosted tourism and local economies in Kasese, a region often overshadowed by its natural beauty.

Initially conceived as a sporting event, the marathon has blossomed into a comprehensive tourism ecosystem. This evolution has brought an influx of visitors, particularly last year during its fourth iteration, who engage with the local culture and environment beyond the race itself.

The event now attracts participants and spectators from various parts of Uganda and even abroad, providing a substantial economic jolt to the district. Local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and craft vendors, have reported increased revenue during the marathon period.

Beyond the immediate economic gains, the marathon has also served to showcase Kasese’s unique attractions, such as the Rwenzori Mountains, often referred to as the “Mountains of the Moon.” This increased visibility is crucial for the long-term development of sustainable tourism in the area.
