Authorities have taken into custody a 27-year-old man in connection with a video that has gone viral on social media, allegedly alluding to criminal operations in Kampala’s Banda neighbourhood.

Solomon Wafula, a resident of Banda Zone III, was arrested on Thursday by detectives from Banda Police Station. The video, which gained traction on X (formerly Twitter), raised concerns among the public regarding security in the area.

Detectives stated that the suspect’s arrest followed widespread circulation of the video and public unease due to its references to criminal activities. An investigation was launched to verify the claims and identify any implicated individuals.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed that Wafula is being interrogated regarding the circumstances under which the video was recorded and whether he has personally engaged in any illegal behaviour. The probe aims to ascertain if the suspect or others mentioned in the footage are involved in criminal acts along Jinja Road and its environs.

Police officials have stressed that the investigation is in its initial stages. Efforts are underway to confirm the video’s authenticity and identify other individuals allegedly referenced.

Owoyesigyire cautioned the public against creating or sharing content that could glorify or promote criminal behaviour, noting that such actions can impede law enforcement efforts and disturb public order.

Investigators are actively pursuing leads related to individuals allegedly mentioned or implied in the video, and are profiling the arrested suspect to determine any past criminal involvement.
