Top international Pentecostal figures, Pastor Benny Hinn and Pastor Kenneth Copeland, have made the decision to cancel their much-anticipated miracle healing crusades in Uganda. The cancellations stem from growing concerns over the recent Ebola outbreak.
Originally slated to take place this weekend, the “Global Conference on the Holy Spirit” was scheduled to be hosted by The Miracle Centre Cathedral, led by Pastor Robert Kayanja. The event was expected to feature not only Hinn and Copeland but also Nigerian Pastor Paul Enenche.
A statement released by Pastor Hinn’s ministry cited consultations with health experts and adherence to guidance from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) as the basis for postponement. “Due to the recent Ebola outbreak in regions of Africa, and after careful consultation with health experts, event leadership, and guidance from the CDC, the decision has been made to postpone the Holy Spirit Conference in Uganda, originally scheduled for June 27–29, in the interest of public safety and well-being,” the statement explained.
Benny Hinn is globally recognized for his large-scale crusades and claims of miraculous healings. He was scheduled to appear alongside Kenneth Copeland, recognized as one of the world’s wealthiest televangelists, and Dr. Paul Enenche.
The Ebola virus, specifically the Bundibugyo strain, has seen an outbreak originating in the Democratic Republic of Congo, leading to fatalities there and some patients seeking treatment in Uganda. Uganda has reported confirmed Ebola cases, some linked to individuals traveling from the DRC.
Hinn’s ministry indicated that rescheduling discussions are already underway, with potential new dates being considered for late September or October.
The US government has implemented temporary entry restrictions for travelers from Uganda, DRC, and South Sudan, requiring a 21-day health monitoring period. Uganda’s Ministry of Health had previously issued stringent guidelines for gatherings, cautioning that close physical contact in crowds could potentially facilitate Ebola transmission if an infected individual were present.
