State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Alioni Odria, has initiated a countrywide effort to combat corruption, signaling a zero-tolerance approach within public service.
During a leadership orientation program in the Bunyoro Sub-region, Minister Odria underscored the government’s commitment to fighting graft at all levels. He urged public officials to diligently safeguard resources meant for citizens.
“President Museveni has made it clear that corruption must be fought at every level,” Odria stated. “As leaders, we have a responsibility to ensure that public resources reach the intended beneficiaries.”
A significant directive from the minister mandates Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) and District Internal Security Officers (DISOs) to provide monthly reports detailing corruption incidents and the measures taken in their respective areas. “Accountability must start with us,” Odria emphasized.
Furthermore, the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance is introducing a new monitoring platform called SWITCH Government. This system is designed to enhance transparency and identify corrupt practices within government operations.
“This platform will help government track, expose and deal with corrupt individuals who undermine service delivery,” the minister explained.
Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, the chief guest, stressed the importance of patriotism and responsible citizenship for national development and resource protection.
The orientation program aims to equip leaders with the necessary skills and knowledge for effective service delivery, with plans to extend the training to leaders in all regions of Uganda.
