The Ugandan Silverbacks engaged in an exciting FIBA World Cup 2027 qualifier warm-up against Rwanda, ultimately losing 89-83 at the BK Arena in Kigali.

The Silverbacks started strong, establishing an early lead in the first quarter with effective offense and solid defense, ending the period up 23-20.

However, Rwanda turned the tide in the second quarter, tightening their defense and finding their offensive rhythm. This dominant spell saw them erase the deficit and build a significant 56-38 lead by halftime.

Uganda showed improved performance after the break, displaying better ball movement and increased defensive intensity. Despite their efforts to close the gap, Rwanda maintained control, heading into the final quarter with a 76-61 advantage.

A spirited comeback from the Silverbacks in the closing minutes made for a tense finish, but Rwanda managed to hold on for the six-point victory.

John Deng Geu was a standout for Uganda, contributing 20 points. The team is still awaiting the arrival of Nike Sibande Dejur and Marvin Musiine-Kamali.

This friendly provided valuable preparation for both nations as they head into the next phase of World Cup qualifiers. The Silverbacks will face South Sudan on Friday and play Rwanda again on Saturday.
