A significant security operation conducted across several Kampala divisions has resulted in the apprehension of over 500 suspects. The joint effort, involving officers from Nateete, Katwe, and Kajjansi policing areas, was a direct response to an increase in reported crimes such as robbery, motorcycle theft, mobile phone theft, and burglary.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachel Kawala stated that the operation was intelligence-led, targeting specific locations known to be havens for criminal elements. The aim was to dismantle criminal networks and recover illicit items.
During the crackdown, authorities seized various items including suspected opium, pangas, and miraa, which are believed to be connected to criminal activities. The arrested individuals are facing charges that include possession of narcotic drugs, public nuisance, and unlawfully possessing offensive weapons.
All apprehended individuals are currently in police custody awaiting further screening and subsequent legal proceedings. This operation is part of the Uganda Police Force’s broader strategy to enhance security and combat crime within the Kampala Metropolitan area.
SP Kawala encouraged the public to continue collaborating with law enforcement by providing information about any suspected criminal activities to aid ongoing efforts.
