President Yoweri Museveni has directed the expansion of vocational training programs with the introduction of four new courses at the Presidential Zonal Industrial Skilling Hubs. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to equip young Ugandans with practical skills, thereby promoting employment, entrepreneurship, and wealth creation.

The directive was revealed during an induction training for newly appointed Finance Managers of the Presidential Zonal Industrial Skilling Hub SACCOs and Managers of Presidential Demonstration Farms. The training took place at the Oliver Reginald Tambo Leadership School in Kaweweta.

Eng. Raymond Kamugisha, Director of Presidential Projects and Industrial Hubs, announced that the new courses will include Electrical Engineering, Plumbing, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, and Weaving and Knitting, effective from the next intake. Kamugisha highlighted the success of the existing hubs, noting that many graduates have found employment in governmental bodies like the UPDF Engineering Brigade and the Uganda Police Force, while others have successfully launched their own businesses.

Speaking at the event, Minister for the Presidency, Milly Babalanda, urged the newly appointed managers to uphold integrity, accountability, and professionalism in their roles. She emphasized that effective management of public resources is crucial for the success of these government programs.

Commissioner for Technology Transfer and Presidential Demonstration Farms, Dr. Moses Ochen, encouraged farm managers to embrace the President’s vision of transforming Uganda’s agricultural sector. He urged them to ensure demonstration farms become centers of excellence promoting modern farming techniques and wealth creation, while also inviting the public to utilize these farms for learning and accessing improved agricultural inputs.

The induction program, running for a week, aims to equip managers with the necessary skills to oversee the hubs, SACCOs, and demonstration farms effectively, ultimately contributing to national job creation and socio-economic development.
