Following a long-standing dispute over the paternity of children claiming lineage to the late Kadongo Kamu legend Paul Job Kafeero, a series of DNA tests have brought clarity. Out of twenty-five individuals who came forward with claims, only four have been confirmed as Kafeero’s biological offspring.
The highly anticipated results were unveiled on Thursday at the Police Forensic Directorate in Naguru, under the supervision of Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara. The event drew expected claimants, family members of the late musician, and figures from the entertainment industry, all eager to learn the outcome that would help resolve conflicts regarding Kafeero’s estate.
Both the Police Forensic Directorate and the Government Analytical Laboratory conducted independent tests using identical scientific procedures. Kepher Kuchana Kateu, Director of the Government Analytical Laboratory, emphasized the accuracy of the findings, stating, “Science does not lie. The final results are out. Please let the conflicts end now.”
Police Forensic Director AIGP Andrew Mubiru announced that the confirmed children are Benedict Kafeero, Simon Peter Kafeero, Tomas Kafeero (also known as Swazi), and Elizabeth Nagawa. The announcement led to emotional reactions, with several unsuccessful claimants expressing their disappointment.
Minister Barugahara noted that the four confirmed children also matched results from earlier DNA tests conducted years ago, the findings of which were previously contested by some claimants. These latest results are expected to be used in proceedings at the Mengo Court to officially update records and solidify the confirmed heirs’ claims to the late musician’s property and legacy. Paul Kafeero, fondly remembered as the “Prince of Kadongo Kamu,” passed away in 2007, leaving behind a significant musical archive.
