The long-standing family feud over the estate of legendary Kadongo Kamu musician Paul Kafeero has reached a scientific resolution. DNA test results, unveiled by the Uganda Police Directorate of Forensic Services, have definitively established that only four of the 25 individuals who claimed paternity are indeed Kafeero’s biological children.

The highly anticipated findings were announced at the Police Headquarters in Naguru, bringing an end to years of uncertainty and conflict surrounding the distribution of the late musician’s assets. The forensic report confirmed Simon Peter Kafeero, Elizabeth Nagawa, Thomas Swazi Kafeero, and Benedict Kafeero as the biological offspring.

Paul Job Kafeero, who passed away in 2007 at the age of 36, left behind a significant musical legacy and considerable wealth, including intellectual property and land holdings. However, his death without a will (intestate) triggered a cascade of paternity claims, stalling the administration of his estate.

The extensive DNA verification process, overseen by the Ministries of Local Government and Gender, Labour and Social Development, and funded by Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs Balaam Barugahara, involved the exhumation of Kafeero’s remains. This sensitive procedure, sanctioned by a court order, was deemed necessary to obtain accurate samples for comparison.

Government Chief Pathologist Dr. Moses Byaruhanga defended the exhumation as a crucial step to resolve the family’s rancor, while legal counsel Joseph Luzige emphasized the need for scientific finality.

These results provide an indisputable legal basis for identifying the rightful heirs, offering relief to the confirmed children and closure to the protracted legal battles. For the 21 individuals whose claims were disproven, the scientific findings mark a definitive end to their potential claims on Kafeero’s lucrative estate.
