Minister for the Presidency, Milly Babalanda, has strongly cautioned managers recently appointed to oversee Presidential Industrial Hubs against engaging in corrupt practices and financial mismanagement. During an induction training held at Oliver Tambo Training School in Kaweweta, Babalanda underscored that the government maintains a firm zero-tolerance stance towards any abuse of public resources.
These newly appointed finance and demonstration farm managers are entrusted with a pivotal role in advancing the nation’s wealth creation agenda. Babalanda reminded them that they serve as custodians of public funds and public trust, and therefore, their duties must be executed with the utmost integrity, professionalism, transparency, and accountability.
“The Office of the President expects nothing less than excellence from each one of them,” Minister Babalanda stated. She further warned that corruption and poor financial management can severely undermine service delivery, erode public confidence, and hinder the government’s socio-economic transformation goals, impacting initiatives like Uganda Vision 2040 and the Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV).
Echoing President Yoweri Museveni’s directives, Babalanda reiterated the “no sleeping and no corruption” principle. She emphasized that every allocated shilling must demonstrably deliver value to Ugandans. The minister also commended President Museveni for establishing the Presidential Industrial Hubs, describing them as a transformative force equipping many young people with essential vocational skills, generating employment, and fostering self-reliance.
Babalanda highlighted that these hubs provide opportunities for individuals without formal education to gain certified skills, thereby improving their employability. She urged the managers to leverage the induction training to fully understand the operational systems, procedures, and guiding values of their roles, noting that effective leadership and sound financial management are crucial for the program’s success.
These managers will be responsible for overseeing financial operations and demonstration farms within the various Presidential Industrial Hubs, as the government intensifies its efforts to combat unemployment and stimulate economic growth.
