Security forces maintain a constant presence at the Nakasero residence of former Parliament Speaker Anita Among, meticulously vetting all individuals seeking entry. An undercover observation by The Observer revealed that while access is not entirely cut off, it is heavily regulated.

Reports circulating on social media had suggested that Among was in complete isolation and facing health complications. However, the scene at her residence indicates a different reality. Security personnel, including members of the Special Forces Command and Counter Terrorism Police, screen every visitor. Entry is granted only to those whose names have been pre-cleared by Among or by the security detail.

On a recent visit, a reporter was denied access without prior authorization. However, other visitors, including Amuru Woman MP Lucy Akello, were seen being admitted after undergoing standard security checks. These individuals appeared to be carrying gifts and stated they had been invited by the former speaker.

This controlled access aligns with statements from Bukedea County MP David Beecham Okwere, who mentioned attending a prayer session at Among’s home with other leaders and a Catholic priest. He noted that family members and certain visitors have continued to have access.

The significant security presence and restricted visitor access have intensified speculation regarding Among’s health and her political standing following recent political events. Government officials have yet to provide a clear explanation for the ongoing security operation around Among’s residence, which began shortly after President Museveni’s swearing-in. Among, who also serves as the NRM’s second national vice chairperson (female), has made limited public appearances since then, leaving many questions about her well-being and future.
