Authorities have made a significant breakthrough in the recent theft at Buwambo Seed Secondary School in the Wakiso district. Detectives have successfully recovered at least 35 computers and apprehended five individuals in connection with the incident.
Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed that the investigation, initially filed at the Matugga police station, is progressing well. The break-in took place on the night of June 18, 2026, when perpetrators breached the school’s perimeter fence and gained entry to the computer laboratory.
During the raid, thieves made off with four HP server CPUs, estimated to be worth Shs 60 million. Following leads derived from the initial arrests, police impounded a vehicle, registration number UA 771EB, believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.
Subsequent interrogations led investigators to multiple locations within Kampala. A targeted operation at E-Tower on Kampala Road resulted in the recovery of 15 computer CPUs, nine UPS units, and 11 HP monitors, all suspected to be stolen goods from the school. Further computer accessories were also retrieved from other related premises.
This incident highlights ongoing security concerns, especially for educational and financial institutions. It follows a similar high-profile theft at the Bank of Uganda headquarters where seven laptops were stolen, leading to the arrest of several counter-terrorism police officers.
Investigations into the Buwambo Seed Secondary School break-in are continuing, with police actively pursuing other potential accomplices who are still at large.
