During a crucial meeting with clan heads at his Mengo palace, Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II voiced strong condemnation of unlawful acts and vigilante justice. He expressed deep sympathy for communities suffering from insecurity and urged those engaging in such practices to cease immediately. “We condemn the practice of taking the law into one’s own hands. Those involved should change their ways so that peace, dignity and stability can prevail in our country,” the Kabaka stated.

The King highlighted growing public concern over rising reports of illicit activities and implored the relevant authorities to enhance their enforcement capabilities. The primary objective, he stressed, is to ensure the safety of citizens and uphold the principles of justice.

A significant portion of his address focused on the alarming increase in land grabbing incidents. The Kabaka underscored the fundamental importance of land as a vital resource, crucial for families and for safeguarding the prosperity of future generations. He encouraged communities to remain vigilant and foster collaboration to effectively protect their ancestral lands.

Furthermore, the Kabaka challenged clan leaders to actively participate in preserving Buganda’s rich cultural heritage. He emphasized the need to educate younger generations about their history, customs, and traditions, ensuring they understand the significance of maintaining their cultural identity. “Our children must know their roots. We must teach them our culture, values and history so that they understand the importance of preserving our heritage,” he remarked.

The meeting, which brought together Abataka (clan heads) from across the Buganda Kingdom, marked a significant platform for discussing issues impacting the kingdom and its numerous clans. The Kabaka commended the clan leaders for their enduring commitment and urged them to intensify their efforts in promoting unity, cultural preservation, and community development.
