Colombia has progressed to the knockout stage of the World Cup following their narrow 1-0 victory against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Despite an outstanding performance from DR Congo’s goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi, who made numerous crucial saves, Daniel Munoz found the net in the 76th minute to seal the win for Colombia.

Colombia dominated possession and created a wealth of opportunities throughout the match. Early efforts from James Rodriguez and Luis Diaz were thwarted by the impressive Mpasi. Although DR Congo showed flashes of attacking intent, notably through Edo Kayembe, Cedric Bakambu, and Yoane Wissa, they struggled to convert their chances.

By halftime, Colombia had already registered 15 shots, highlighting their attacking pressure. After the interval, Mpasi continued his heroics, denying Diaz once more. Just as DR Congo’s Wissa thought he might have found the opener, Colombia struck through Munoz, who capitalized on a chance from the right side of the penalty area.

With this win, Colombia has amassed six points from their first two games, guaranteeing their advancement. They will face Portugal in their final group match, while DR Congo, currently on one point, faces a crucial fixture against Uzbekistan. DR Congo will need a win or a draw to keep their World Cup dreams alive.
