Clan leaders within the Buganda Kingdom have voiced urgent demands for the return of ancestral lands and the swift resolution of long-standing compensation issues. At a recent meeting with Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II at Mengo Palace, the Chairperson of the Buganda Council of Clan Heads, Augustine Kizito Mutumba Namwama, presented a report highlighting these pressing concerns.

Namwama stressed that the repatriation of clan ancestral lands, as previously directed, would serve as a significant catalyst for development. He argued that such a move would not only enhance economic prospects within the clans but also fortify their cultural institutions.

Furthermore, the clan leaders called upon the government to expedite the settlement of compensation matters related to the Buganda Kingdom. They expressed concern that protracted legal battles are a considerable impediment to progress, hindering the forward momentum of development initiatives.

“If government compensation issues are settled and cases do not drag on indefinitely in court, development will move forward much faster,” Namwama stated, emphasizing the direct link between timely legal resolutions and economic advancement.

The report also detailed ongoing efforts by the clan leadership to safeguard Buganda’s rich cultural heritage, maintain meticulous clan records, and reinforce the existing traditional leadership structures. The Abataka, as the clan leaders are known, reiterated their unwavering commitment to preserving customs and traditions while simultaneously fostering social and economic growth within their respective communities. The meeting served as a vital platform for reviewing progress, addressing challenges, and seeking the Kabaka’s guidance on matters impacting both the kingdom and its constituent clans.
