As Uganda heads towards more electoral activities, the Buganda Kingdom has issued a strong call for politicians to embrace forgiveness and reconciliation. The kingdom believes these principles are crucial for healing divisions and reducing tensions that often arise from political competition.

The message was conveyed by the Buganda Minister for Information, Mobilisation, and Kingdom Spokesperson, Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, during a ceremony at Bulange, Mengo. He was representing the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga.

This appeal is reportedly inspired by a recent message from Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II during Eid al-Adha celebrations. The Kabaka highlighted the significance of forgiveness and condemned divisive political practices, drawing a parallel with developed nations that prioritize such values in their public affairs.

The kingdom stressed that elections can exacerbate community divisions and implored political leaders to place national interests above personal and partisan differences. This call for unity comes as the kingdom also discussed its development priorities, including boosting coffee production through value addition and preparing for the Kabaka’s coronation anniversary.

The event also saw significant financial contributions from various counties towards the Kingdom’s oluwaalo program, demonstrating continued support from subjects. Leaders present pledged their commitment to the Kingdom’s initiatives and called for facilitated dialogue among politicians to resolve disputes and foster development.
