A tragic incident has unfolded in Kyenjojo district where a seven-year-old boy, Osber Turinayo, was kidnapped and subsequently murdered. The boy disappeared on June 12th while returning home with friends from a local bar where they had gathered to watch a movie. His family, along with local residents, launched an extensive search but their efforts proved fruitless.

Three days later, on June 15th, the grieving family received a chilling phone call from an unknown individual demanding a ransom of Shs1.5 million for the boy’s safe return. The caller threatened to kill the child if the ransom was not paid. The family had already reported the disappearance to the police, who immediately launched an investigation.

Through diligent tracking, law enforcement apprehended two suspects: Isaiah Manyindo, aged 26, and Erias Twimukye, aged 17. During interrogation, both suspects confessed to the kidnapping and murder of Turinayo. They led the police to the crime scene, where the boy’s lifeless body was discovered concealed under tree leaves.

Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke stated that the investigation is ongoing, with the aim of bringing the perpetrators to justice in court. Rusoke also took the opportunity to issue a stern warning to parents and guardians about negligence, questioning how a seven-year-old child ended up at a bar at 9 PM. He emphasized that while the suspects will face punishment, the victim’s life cannot be recovered due to adult lapses in supervision.

This incident follows a pattern of similar heinous crimes across the country, including the recent kidnapping and murder of businesswoman Lydia Babirye Ssengendo in Kampala, despite her family paying a partial ransom. The police urge heightened vigilance from all citizens to prevent further tragedies.
