Museveni Rallies Support for NRM in Kalangala, Outlines Island Development Plan

President Yoweri Museveni has actively campaigned for Idah Nabayiga, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate, in the Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament by-election. Addressing a rally at Kibanga Primary School, Museveni emphasized the importance of NRM leadership for effective development and service delivery in the district.
The President highlighted past developmental hindrances due to perceived communication gaps with opposition representation, advocating for Nabayiga’s election to ensure better coordination and progress.
President Museveni unveiled a comprehensive development agenda for the Ssese Islands, focusing on critical sectors. He promised significant improvements in transport, including the expansion of ferry services with new vessels planned from Entebbe to various islands, alongside improved scheduling and discipline for existing ferries. Road infrastructure within the islands is also slated for upgrades.
Plans were also announced to extend electricity to unserved areas like Kyamuswa and Bufumira. In education, the government will establish secondary schools in three parishes currently lacking them. Addressing healthcare needs, Museveni pledged to work towards establishing a district hospital for Kalangala.
The President also underscored wealth creation initiatives, promoting the Four-Acre Model for intensive farming and encouraging activities like palm oil growing, modern agriculture, and fishing. He revisited the history of the fishing sector’s revival and ordered a review of policies to better support fishing communities, promising further discussions on reforms.
Local leaders, including Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune and Rose Namayanja, welcomed the President and praised his leadership for strengthening the NRM’s presence in Kalangala. They also highlighted the positive impact of government programs like the Parish Development Model and Emyooga on local livelihoods.
