Members of Parliament in Uganda are being urged to set aside partisan differences and concentrate on legislative matters that foster national unity and welfare. Prince Kassim Nakibinge Kakungulu, the Titular Head of Muslims in Uganda, emphasized that sectors like education, health, and financial development are common grounds that should unite legislators, rather than party affiliations. He encouraged MPs to channel their energies into constructive endeavors that benefit all Ugandans.

During a luncheon hosted by Prince Nakibinge for the Muslim Parliamentary Caucus, former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi echoed these sentiments. Mbabazi stressed the necessity of unity of purpose for Uganda’s transformation, advocating for mutual respect of differing viewpoints and a collaborative approach to addressing critical issues such as poverty eradication, education, and ethical governance. He asserted that political competition should not impede cooperation on matters vital to the nation’s future.

Mbabazi also advised legislators on the prudent management of Uganda’s emerging oil resources. He highlighted the finite nature of petroleum, suggesting it should serve as a catalyst for sustainable, generational wealth rather than for immediate consumption. Mbabazi recommended strategic investment of oil revenues into key sectors like agriculture, agro-processing, science and technology, manufacturing, and infrastructure.

The former Premier detailed that these investments should aim to build a self-sustaining economy capable of growth beyond the lifespan of the country’s oil reserves. He reminded the MPs that they are stewards of this exhaustible asset and have a responsibility to ensure its benefits extend to future generations.

The Chairperson of the Muslim Parliamentary Caucus, Hon. Hassan Kirumira, affirmed the caucus’s commitment to advancing the welfare of the Muslim community within Uganda.
