The Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) is set to collaborate with NFT Consult, a firm with over two decades of experience in talent management, to address critical human resource gaps in the nation’s sports industry. This partnership will pilot the National Sports Employment and Talent Development Initiative (NSETDI), designed to professionalize sports administration and create sustainable careers.

Recent challenges, including new registration requirements for sports federations and a lack of trained personnel, highlight the urgent need for this initiative. Many individuals in sports roles are currently volunteers, and retired athletes often face uncertainty about their future careers. This program aims to bridge that gap by identifying, developing, and placing talent within the sports ecosystem.

NFT Consult brings extensive expertise in training design and program management across various sectors and countries. “Uganda stands at a pivotal moment,” stated Elizabeth Ntege, CEO of NFT Consult. “With one of Africa’s youngest populations, a rapidly expanding sports sector, co-hosting rights for Afcon 2027, and deep connections to the global Olympic movement, the country has every ingredient needed to transform sport from an activity into an industry.”

The NSETDI initiative aims to create approximately 5,000 meaningful careers by 2030, targeting transitioning athletes, sports-adjacent graduates, and unemployed youth, among others. It maps out nine career domains, including sports development, business management, elite performance support, and media. The upcoming Africa Cup of Nations 2027 co-hosting is also expected to spur demand for trained sports professionals, aligning with the Olympic movement’s broader goals for sports workforce development in Africa.
