Lukanga Boxing Club, renowned for its impressive collection of 12 trophies and multiple championship belts, is broadening its horizons. The club, which has a legacy of producing national champions since its founding in 1992, has unveiled a new community-focused program designed to nurture the next generation of boxing stars.
This initiative, launched during the club’s recent annual celebrations, involves enlisting former boxing legends and senior athletes. These mentors will return to their home communities to scout for promising young individuals, offering them guidance and training. Among the notable figures involved is 2000 Sydney Olympian Muhammad Kizito, also known as Sande Swico.
Club founder Samuel Lukaga emphasized that the club’s sustained success is built on discipline, patience, and a deep commitment to talent development. “We have embarked on training the younger generation from different communities. All the legends produced by Lukanga Boxing Club have been tasked to give back to society by identifying young talents who can become future champions,” Lukaga stated.
The club’s recent triumphs include sweeping the Juniors, Youth, and Elite categories at the National Novices and Intermediates Championships. They further solidified their dominance by retaining the National Open title for a record seventh time, securing victories across all age divisions and earning overall best team, best coach, and best player awards.
Beyond competitive achievements, Lukanga Boxing Club aims to use boxing as a vehicle for transformation, creating opportunities and empowering youth from less privileged backgrounds. By extending its influence into local communities, the club hopes to ensure a vibrant future for Ugandan boxing for years to come.
