Leaders from the organization Ghetto Kingdom have issued a strong appeal to the youth residing in Uganda’s impoverished urban areas. The core message is a call to reject the allure of crime and drug abuse, and to channel their energy into productive pursuits that can lead to a more stable and prosperous future.

Isabellah Mbabazi, a prominent leader within Ghetto Kingdom, voiced concerns about the increasing involvement of young individuals in destructive behaviors such as theft and violence. She emphasized that such actions not only endanger their lives but also forfeit opportunities for personal growth and a decent living.

Mbabazi also highlighted the critical role of parental guidance, particularly for boys. She noted that an imbalance in attention, often favoring girls, can leave boys feeling neglected and more susceptible to negative influences. A concerted societal effort is needed to mentor and support them in becoming responsible citizens.

Adding to the discourse, Grace Batamye, also known as Gologosa and a youth leader from Nansana, criticized political figures for their sporadic attention to ghetto communities, primarily during election cycles. He challenged the widespread perception of ghettos as solely crime-ridden areas, asserting they are vibrant hubs of untapped talent in music, sports, and other creative fields.

Batamye stressed that these talented youths often lack the necessary support and exposure to flourish. He urged government bodies, NGOs, and community leaders to invest in empowerment programs and talent development initiatives within these marginalized communities, rather than exploiting them for political gains.

The meeting, held at Nabweru Playground, forms part of Ghetto Kingdom’s continuous efforts to foster positive youth development and tackle the complex challenges faced by young people in urban settings.
