At just 23 years old, Denise Ayebare, a prominent Ugandan youth leader and social entrepreneur, has earned a spot in the esteemed Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 Class of 2026. This recognition celebrates young Africans making significant contributions through innovation, leadership, and impactful work across the continent.
Ayebare is the Founder and Executive Director of BetterLife International, an organization she started with a modest $200 investment while still a student. BetterLife International focuses on critical areas such as climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, women’s economic empowerment, youth leadership, and community development.
The organization has grown substantially, extending its reach throughout Africa. It supports refugees, young people, and vulnerable communities by implementing programs focused on climate action, education, and fostering sustainable living. A notable innovation from BetterLife International is the Soilla App, a digital tool designed to guide farmers in improving soil health and adopting eco-friendly agricultural practices.
Forbes Africa highlighted Ayebare’s work for its innovation, scalability, and entrepreneurial impact. Her dedication and vision led to a five-star rating from a selection committee member, who reportedly called her a top recommendation for the list.
Beyond her role at BetterLife International, Ayebare is the Secretary for External Relations at the National Youth Council of Uganda. She has also represented young people on regional and international platforms, advocating for climate change action, sustainable development, and youth engagement.
Ayebare’s achievement underscores the growing influence of a new generation of African leaders actively developing practical solutions to pressing social and environmental issues. “This recognition is a reminder that young Africans are not waiting for change to happen; they are building it every day in their communities, institutions and countries,” Ayebare stated, emphasizing her motivation to continue creating opportunities and strengthening communities through youth-led initiatives.
