Canon Rebecca Margaret Nyegenye, Dean of All Saints’ Cathedral Kampala, recently addressed Christians at the Mukono Diocese Convention 2026, emphasizing the call for spiritual maturity. Speaking under the convention’s theme, “Growing Spiritual Maturity in Christ,” derived from Ephesians 4:13, Nyegenye stressed that this growth is an expectation for all believers, not just clergy.
She encouraged attendees to develop a personal connection with Christ and deepen their understanding of their faith. “A mature Christian should know what they believe and be able to explain the reason for their faith,” she stated, underscoring the importance of continuous growth in God’s Word and relationship with Christ.
Nyegenye also highlighted that spiritual maturity is demonstrated through active engagement in the Church’s mission. She urged Christians to utilize their God-given gifts and talents for the edification of the Church and the advancement of God’s Kingdom, noting that the Church’s effectiveness hinges on willing service.
Furthermore, the convention called for greater unity among believers. Nyegenye implored Christians to avoid divisive actions and attitudes, advocating for love and mutual encouragement as members of the body of Christ. She emphasized that true maturity is reflected in conduct, calling for believers to embody Christ-like attitudes in their daily lives.
Bishop Enos Kitto Kagodo of Mukono Diocese commended the convention’s theme and noted the significant attendance as a testament to the spiritual hunger among Christians. He confirmed that the next convention, scheduled for September 2026, will be hosted by Nakibizzi Archdeaconry and involve several collaborating entities.
