The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has made the difficult decision to postpone its upcoming Business Registration Clinic in Obongi District. The four-day event, originally scheduled from June 23rd to 26th, 2026, was intended to serve refugees and host communities.
This postponement comes as a direct response to the current Ebola outbreak affecting the region. URSB cited public health and safety as paramount concerns, aiming to prevent any potential spread of the virus that could occur during a public gathering.
In a letter to the Obongi District Chief Administrative Officer, URSB indicated that the clinic is proposed to be rescheduled for late July or early August 2026. The final dates will be confirmed once the health situation stabilizes and public gatherings are deemed safe.
The clinic’s objective was to assist refugees, women, youth, and local community members in formalizing their businesses, thereby granting them access to formal economic opportunities. Despite the delay, URSB reaffirmed its commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and economic empowerment in these vulnerable areas.
Obongi District officials acknowledged the communication and expressed understanding for the precautionary measure. They emphasized that while the community looked forward to the clinic, the safety of residents is the highest priority. The district administration is urging continued vigilance and adherence to Ebola prevention guidelines while awaiting the rescheduled dates.
This decision aligns with broader governmental and partner efforts to control the Ebola outbreak through heightened surveillance, awareness campaigns, and restrictions on high-risk activities.
