The National Resistance Movement (NRM) is pulling out all the stops in Kalangala, with senior party officials leading grassroots mobilization efforts for their Woman MP candidate, Idah Nabayiga, ahead of the upcoming by-election.

NRM Deputy Secretary General Rose Namayanja was recently seen engaging directly with voters in Bumangi and Bugoma villages, emphasizing the importance of electing leaders who can effectively channel development projects and public services through government channels. She stressed that community progress is often hindered when elected officials are not aligned with the ruling party.

Namayanja highlighted that Nabayiga, a former Woman MP, understands the district’s unique needs and can leverage her experience to advocate for Kalangala. She pointed to projects that may have stalled when Nabayiga was out of Parliament, suggesting that her return would accelerate development.

The campaign underscored that effective lobbying and integration into national planning and budgeting processes are crucial for securing essential services like better roads, schools, and healthcare facilities. Namayanja assured residents that the government is committed to addressing the specific challenges faced by island and fishing communities.

Fellow party leaders, including Bujumba County MP William Lugoloobi, echoed the sentiment, portraying Nabayiga as a vital addition to the NRM’s parliamentary team in the district. Preparations are also underway for a significant rally where President Yoweri Museveni is expected to officially endorse Nabayiga, marking a final push before the by-election.

This intensive campaign strategy aims to consolidate the NRM’s support base at the village level and secure a victory for their candidate, ensuring Kalangala benefits from government programs. The vacant Woman MP seat within the NRM Parliamentary Caucus is seen as a gap that Nabayiga’s election would effectively fill.
