Fear and uncertainty have gripped communities along the Jinja-Kamuli Highway following the discovery of a man brutally killed in Mutai Village early Friday morning. Residents found the victim in a pool of blood next to his shattered helmet, sparking alarm among locals.

Preliminary police investigations suggest the man was ambushed and attacked during the night. The absence of his motorcycle from the scene has led detectives to believe robbery was a motive, with assault preceding the killing.

Adding to the mystery, investigators found a Uganda Police Force T-shirt on the deceased, strongly suggesting he was affiliated with law enforcement. However, no identification documents were found, complicating immediate identification. Detectives also noted the victim was wearing multiple jackets.

Wooden sticks found near the body are suspected to be the murder weapons. Police deployed a sniffer dog in an attempt to track the assailants, but no immediate breakthroughs were reported. This incident has amplified concerns about rising insecurity on the highway, particularly in the Nsuube and Kagoma areas, where criminals reportedly use dark, forested sections to ambush travelers.

“This place has become a death trap,” stated Rajab Kakande, Defence Secretary of Mutai Village, appealing for increased security. The boda boda community, frequent users of the route, especially at night, also expressed their vulnerability and called for more police patrols. The body has been taken for a postmortem examination as police work to identify the victim and apprehend the perpetrators.

The incident has shaken the Mutai community, raising questions about how such a violent attack could occur on a major road. Police are continuing their efforts to identify the man and trace the suspects responsible for the brutal ambush.
