Brazil’s recent 3-0 victory over a limited Haiti side offered a glimpse into the tactical adjustments made by coach Carlo Ancelotti, particularly the impact of Matheus Cunha in the forward line. Following a disappointing 1-1 draw in their World Cup opener, Ancelotti introduced Cunha to the starting eleven, a change that significantly enhanced the team’s attacking structure and fluency.

Cunha’s presence at center-forward provided a more natural link between Brazil’s midfield and attack. His movement off the ball and ability to connect play allowed players like Vinicius Junior and Lucas Paqueta to operate with greater effectiveness. Paqueta, in particular, looked more at ease in a left-sided midfield role, contributing to fluid passing combinations that had been absent in their previous match.

The interplay between Cunha, Vinicius Junior, and Paqueta on the left flank proved particularly fruitful, leading to Brazil’s goals. This dynamic demonstrated a chemistry reminiscent of times when Neymar anchored the attack, suggesting a potential solution to Brazil’s long-standing reliance on individual brilliance.

However, challenges remain. Raphinha struggled on the right wing, appearing disconnected from the team’s play and eventually substituted due to an apparent leg issue. His struggles raise questions about Brazil’s efficacy on the right flank and whether his club role, which allows for more central involvement, can be replicated in Ancelotti’s system.

Furthermore, concerns linger about the physical capabilities of veteran midfielder Casemiro against stronger opposition. Bruno Guimaraes’s comfortable performance as a right midfielder suggests a potential alternative for bolstering defensive solidity and build-up play. While not a definitive statement performance, Brazil’s display against Haiti marked a step forward in finding their rhythm and tactical identity.
