The media fraternity and political leaders in Uganda are in mourning following the death of BBS Television journalist Joseph Sseruwooza. He passed away at Mulago National Referral Hospital due to complications reportedly related to an ulcer condition.
Sseruwooza, who died around 4:00 AM on Friday, was widely respected for his diligence and professionalism. Colleagues and politicians alike have expressed shock and offered tributes, remembering him as a committed and ethical reporter.
The Uganda Press Parliamentary Association (UPPA), where Sseruwooza was active in leadership as chief whip, mourned the loss of a “gallant media personality.” UPPA President Sam Ibanda Mugabi described Sseruwooza as more than a colleague, calling him a “brother, a mentor, and a guardian of our professional standards.”
Mugabi highlighted Sseruwooza’s role in guiding journalists in the parliamentary press gallery and noted his commitment to accurate and ethical reporting, which served as an inspiration to many.
Opposition figures also paid their respects. National Unity Platform Secretary General Lewis Rubongoya expressed deep sorrow, offering condolences to BBS and the entire media fraternity. Kira Municipality MP George Musisi shared his heartbreak, having recently been hosted by Sseruwooza on his program.
Former parliamentary aspirant Asinansi Nyakato echoed these sentiments, describing Sseruwooza as a professional and hardworking journalist who served with integrity. Sseruwooza had established a strong reputation as a parliamentary reporter and political talk show host, known for his calm demeanor and focus on public accountability.
His passing leaves a significant void in the parliamentary press corps, where he was recognized as a consistent and influential voice covering legislative matters.
