Investigations are underway in Jinja District following the arrest of a 16-year-old boy accused of defiling a 9-year-old minor. The incident reportedly took place in Buyengo Town Council, where the suspect is alleged to have intercepted the younger child as he was returning from school.
According to local authorities, the suspect forcibly took the victim into a nearby bush, where the alleged assault occurred. The 9-year-old, upon returning home in severe pain, recounted the ordeal to his parents, prompting immediate action.
The teenager is currently in custody at Buyengo Police Station. Officials have indicated that this is not the first time the suspect has faced such allegations. Previous reports suggest that community interventions and informal agreements led to the dropping of earlier cases.
Assistant Resident District Commissioner Samuel Kawuta expressed concern over the alleged lack of reporting by some parents, suggesting this may have emboldened the suspect. He emphasized the importance of reporting all criminal offenses to the police, rather than attempting to resolve them through financial settlements.
Mr. Kawuta also issued a warning to schools regarding the late release of pupils, highlighting the increased vulnerability of children to security risks and potential abuse during their journey home. He urged parents to maintain close supervision of their children and provide guidance on appropriate behavior to mitigate future incidents.
This case was brought to light after the families involved failed to reach an agreement through informal negotiations, underscoring the necessity of involving law enforcement in such serious matters. Authorities are urging the community to prioritize reporting criminal activities to the proper channels.
