The Muhabura Diocese of the Anglican Church of Uganda has launched an appeal for Shs1.15 billion to fund the crucial roofing stage of its new cathedral. This significant fundraising effort aims to cover the costs associated with roofing the 3,000-seater structure, a project that has faced delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

During the signing of a one-year roofing contract with Fabrications System Uganda Limited, Bishop Rt Rev. Godfrey Mbitse urged Christians and supporters to contribute financially. He expressed optimism that with timely funding, the contractor could potentially complete the work sooner than the agreed-upon deadline of June next year.

The contract, valued at Shs1,154,852,478, involves the supply and installation of structural girders and 3,333 iron sheets. The project’s lead engineer noted that construction began in 2020, with the overall cost estimated to exceed Shs5 billion. Significant funds, over Shs800 million, have already been invested in the cathedral, largely through voluntary donations.

The Diocese emphasized the cathedral’s importance as a future landmark and a vital center for the church and community for generations to come. The contractor has pledged to adhere to the contract terms and also acknowledged the request to maintain Christian values, including refraining from work on Sundays.
