The Bishop Emeritus of West Lango Diocese, Rt Rev. Alfred Acur Okodi, has encouraged the healthcare professionals and administration at Lira Regional Referral Hospital to champion teamwork and high standards in their service. This appeal was made during the hospital’s first-ever Prayer Breakfast, held on the hospital grounds.

Bishop Okodi acknowledged the dedication of the hospital’s staff in enhancing healthcare services. However, he emphasized the critical need for enhanced cooperation to overcome operational challenges and elevate patient care. He reminded the attendees that healthcare workers have a sacred duty to heal and preserve lives, urging them to “use your God-given talents to improve patient outcomes and the quality of healthcare.”

Echoing the call for unity, Rev. Thomas Obong, Secretary General of the Lango Religious Leaders Forum, stated that significant achievements are built on collective endeavors. He noted that Lira Regional Referral Hospital is making strides in becoming a leading healthcare institution in Uganda and urged staff to remain aligned with this vision and Ministry of Health guidelines.

Highlighting the hospital’s substantial service capacity, Dr. Andrew Odur, the hospital’s Director, shared that they conduct over 300,000 laboratory tests annually, perform more than 10,000 surgeries, and provide over 200 dialysis sessions monthly. He also pointed out considerable advancements in infrastructure, staffing, and the broader healthcare system.

Dr. Odur concluded by requesting continued support from religious leaders, community figures, and the public for the hospital’s ongoing service improvement initiatives. The prayer breakfast served as a platform for health workers, clergy, administrators, and other stakeholders to contemplate the intersection of faith, service, and collaboration in advancing healthcare.
