The English Premier League is set to begin its 2026-27 season on Friday, August 21st, with a notable fixture featuring the newly crowned champions, Arsenal.

Newly promoted Coventry City will make their return to the top flight after a 25-year absence by facing Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side in the season’s opening match. This game will kick off the campaign just 34 days after the conclusion of the World Cup in the United States.

Other newly promoted teams will also feature in the opening weekend. Hull City, who secured promotion via the play-offs, will host Manchester United on Saturday, August 22nd. Ipswich Town will also play at home on the same day, welcoming Sunderland.

The season sees several managerial changes for prominent clubs. Manchester City will begin their post-Pep Guardiola era at home against Bournemouth, who themselves are under new management with Marco Rose. Liverpool’s first fixture under their new coach Andoni Iraola will be an away match against Newcastle.

Chelsea, under the guidance of Xabi Alonso, will start their campaign away at Fulham. The Cottagers are also yet to confirm their new manager following Marco Silva’s departure.

The league campaign is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, May 30th, 2027, with the Champions League final taking place six days later. Both the start and end dates have been adjusted to accommodate the World Cup schedule.

This season will feature 33 rounds of weekend fixtures, with the remaining five games to be played during midweek. The Premier League has also committed to reducing fixture congestion during the Christmas and New Year period, ensuring no team plays two matches within a 60-hour window. Additionally, the traditional three two-week international breaks have been consolidated into two, with a single three-week break in September/October and the usual November break remaining.
