Amateur golfer Joseph Cwinyai is set to compete in Nairobi after clinching victory in the inaugural leg of the NCBA Golf Series held at the Uganda Golf Club (UGC) in Kitante. Cwinyai carded an impressive 2-under par 70 gross, outperforming a field of 220 golfers.

This win guarantees Cwinyai, a national team player, an all-expenses-paid trip to the grand finale of the series, scheduled to take place at the prestigious Karen Country Club in Nairobi later this year. The event is part of a larger regional circuit that features 25 golf courses across Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda.

Despite challenging dry season conditions, Cwinyai expressed confidence in his performance. His winning round included four birdies, countered by two bogeys. He edged out John Musiimenta by a single stroke, with Gilbert Asiimwe and Aggrey Mutaka tying for third place but losing out on count-back.

The NCBA Golf Series aims to foster the growth of golf in East Africa. Mark Muyobo, CEO of NCBA Bank Uganda, stated that the series reflects the bank’s commitment to empowering ambitions and believing in the transformative power of sports.

The next leg of the NCBA Series will be hosted at Entebbe Club on October 3, where the overall winner will join Cwinyai in Nairobi for the ultimate showdown. Martha Babirye was the overall winner on the ladies’ side with a score of 77 gross.
