A 19-year family feud concerning the estate and rightful heirs of the late Kadongo Kamu music legend, Paul Kafeero, is nearing its end. The Uganda Police Force and the Directorate of Government Analytical Laboratory (DGAL) are scheduled to publicly release and read the DNA findings on June 25, 2026.
Over 25 individuals have come forward claiming to be children of the iconic musician. Minister for Local Government, Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, who has been instrumental in mediating this protracted dispute, made the announcement on June 18, 2025. The official event will commence at 11 am at the Police Headquarters in Naguru.
Minister Barugahara expressed gratitude to the Police Forensic Laboratory, led by Assistant Commissioner Andrew K. Mubiru, and the DGAL team, headed by Mr. Kepher Kuchana Kateu, for their meticulous work. “I extend my sincere appreciation to the Police forensic experts and the Government Analytical Laboratory team for their dedication, professionalism, and tireless efforts in bringing closure to this 19-year family dispute,” he stated.
The significant event is expected to draw members of the press, the claimants, their mothers, clan leaders, paternal uncles, and close associates of the late Kafeero. Paul Kafeero, renowned for his lyrical prowess, passed away in 2007, leaving a rich musical legacy that has been marred by disputes over his estate and paternity claims.
This public announcement aims to provide definitive answers and bring resolution to the lingering questions surrounding Kafeero’s lineage and inheritance. The process underscores the importance of scientific evidence in resolving such sensitive family matters.
