The opening day of the CU Women’s Division One T20 League saw a commanding performance from both defending champions Olila Cricket Club and Soroti City CC. Both teams secured double victories, immediately establishing themselves as early frontrunners in the 2026 campaign.

Olila CC demonstrated their championship pedigree by twice defeating Jinja SSS. In their first match, the team recovered from early stumbles to post 133/3, driven by Esther Iloku’s 60 and an unbeaten 53 from captain Malisa Ariokot. Jinja SSS struggled against Olila’s disciplined bowling, collapsing for just 40 runs.

The afternoon fixture saw a similar script, with Iloku scoring 50 and Ariokot again remaining not out on 53 in Olila’s total of 124/5. Jinja SSS could only muster 71/8 in response, sealing another comfortable win for the defending champions.

Over at Florida Cricket Ground, Soroti City CC matched Olila’s authority with their own impressive displays against Wanderers CC. A rain-affected morning game saw Soroti post 69, a score they defended resolutely, restricting Wanderers to 47/5 despite a remarkable six-wicket haul from Sonia Nampeera.

Soroti then shifted gears in the afternoon, with captain Janet Mbabazi leading the charge with a swift 58 off 41 balls. Her innings helped Soroti reach 133/8, and their bowlers effectively closed out the match, dismissing Wanderers for 68/9 to secure a 65-run victory.

With these strong opening performances, Olila CC, spearheaded by the consistent Iloku-Ariokot partnership, and Soroti City CC, showcasing a balanced and disciplined team, have clearly signaled their ambitions for the title.
