Rev. Fr. Bonny Kalyesubula, a prominent figure within the Catholic Diocese of Masaka, has died in a devastating road accident. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday in Bukomansimbi District when the vehicle he was traveling in collided head-on with a fuel tanker.

The southern regional police spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye, confirmed that the accident took place along the Villa Maria–Bukomansimbi–Sembabule Road. Fr. Kalyesubula, who held significant roles as the diocesan head of construction projects and as the parish priest of Kitaasa Parish, tragically passed away at the crash site.

Masaka Diocesan Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Charles Jude Jjuuko, expressed profound grief over the loss, highlighting Fr. Kalyesubula’s immense contributions to the development and construction initiatives within the diocese. “Fr. Bonny Kalyesubula was a dedicated servant of God whose contribution to the development of the diocese, especially in the construction sector, was invaluable,” Fr. Jjuuko stated, emphasizing his pivotal role in overseeing various diocesan building projects.

Regina Kitaka, Chairperson of the Masaka Diocesan Laity Council, shared the shock and disbelief felt by the Christian community. Many had seen Fr. Kalyesubula just the previous evening at a meeting, making his sudden death difficult to comprehend. “The news of Fr. Kalyesubula’s death has deeply shocked us. Many of us were with him at a meeting at Kitovu Sports Arena yesterday evening, and it is difficult to believe that he is no longer with us,” Kitaka said.

The diocese has released a detailed burial program for the late priest, with ceremonies scheduled for Thursday, June 18, 2026, and Friday, June 19, 2026. The proceedings will include the transfer of his body to Kitaasa Parish, a Requiem Mass, and an overnight vigil, followed by a Funeral Mass and burial at Bukalasa Minor Seminary in Kalungu District.

Clergy, church leaders, and faithful from across Masaka Diocese are expected to gather to pay their final respects.
