At just 19 years old, Kimberly Jael Aremo Acio is a contender for the Miss Universe Uganda title, but her participation goes beyond a mere crown. Hailing from the Kole District in Northern Uganda, Kimberly’s journey is a testament to resilience and self-belief, aiming to inspire young people to pursue their dreams.

Initially, Kimberly had aspirations of studying biomedical engineering and was a valedictorian. However, life’s unexpected turns led her towards pageantry. She was drawn to Miss Universe not for the glamour, but for its advocacy platform. “The moment I learned that Miss Universe had a development and advocacy platform, I knew I wanted to be part of it,” she shared.

Her present confidence stands in stark contrast to her childhood. Between the ages of 10 and 13, Kimberly endured significant bullying, which made her dread attending school. She kept this struggle from her parents, fearing it would worsen the situation. This painful period has now been reframed as a source of strength, teaching her the power of choice in becoming a better person and making an impact.

Kimberly credits her past challenges with shaping her into the individual she is today. Previously preferring group work and shying away from individual challenges, she deliberately chose the Miss Universe Uganda stage to push her boundaries. “If it wasn’t for the fact that I was bullied, I know I wouldn’t have been here today,” she reflected.

Her campaign is centered on youth mentorship and empowerment. Kimberly believes every young person has potential, and mentorship can help ignite it. She seeks to use her platform to encourage them to recognize their capabilities and chase their ambitions, regardless of obstacles. She cites lawyer and activist Miria Matembe as a significant inspiration for her courage and leadership.

Away from the spotlight, Kimberly is an introvert who enjoys creating online content and sharing her life experiences. She has a fondness for animals, though a childhood incident involving a goat left her wary for years. Reflecting on her journey, she hopes to be remembered as a vibrant individual who made others feel seen.

Kimberly’s participation in Miss Universe Uganda is more than a competition; it’s a pursuit of personal growth and purpose, a journey to become the best version of herself. She focuses on her personal journey, striving to be the person she envisions at the end of it all.
