A prison warder, Moses Anguyo, identified as the primary suspect in a quadruple homicide at Kiboga Central Prison, is set to face trial in the High Court. Alongside him, three co-accused, including Peter Anziku (alias) Dickson Okuonzu and Hellen Amviko, have also been committed to the High Court.

The group, who have been in remand since April 1, 2026, appeared before Kiboga Grade One Magistrate Emmanuel Alioni Drajole on June 17, 2026. Investigations into the February 23, 2026 incident, which resulted in four deaths, are now complete, according to Senior State Attorney Stephen Ariong.

Particulars of the offence state that Warder Anguyo unlawfully caused the deaths of Prison Officer Bright Akishuri, Sarah Ayebare, Alson Niwagaba, and ASP Hope Catherine on February 23, 2026. He faces additional charges of aggravated robbery and threatening violence, including robbing an individual and threatening to kill SP Ivan Niwagaba.

The co-accused are alleged to have assisted Anguyo in evading justice between February 23 and March 27, 2026. The shooting incident on February 23 left two supervisors and two civilians dead. A one-year-old child also succumbed to injuries sustained in the event. Anguyo was later apprehended in the Democratic Republic of Congo and extradited to Uganda.

While some stakeholders have advocated for a public trial, the Judiciary is expected to make a formal announcement regarding the trial format once hearing dates are set. The case has garnered significant attention due to the brutality of the crime and the subsequent capture of the main suspect.
