Police in Kampala have conducted a significant two-day operation, netting 96 motorcycles suspected to be stolen and apprehending 60 individuals. The crackdown focused on syndicates involved in motorcycle theft, street robberies, and drug-related offenses across Kampala, Wakiso, and Mukono districts.

Intelligence led police to Kireka Zone C, where a raid on a suspected illegal motorcycle reassembly garage uncovered 16 motorcycles and led to the arrest of 12 suspects. Further operations in other zones within Kira and Mukono districts targeted individuals involved in drug abuse and street robberies, resulting in the arrest of 28 more suspects and the seizure of suspected narcotic substances.

A separate operation in Munaku Zone, Rubaga Division, led to the recovery of 80 additional motorcycles. Initially, two motorcycles believed to be used in a robbery were traced to a parking yard acting as a collection point for stolen bikes. A search of the premises by a joint police team recovered the bulk of the motorcycles and led to the arrest of nine suspects.

Authorities are appealing to the public who may have lost motorcycles to report to Old Kampala Police Station or other relevant stations with proof of ownership. Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire stated that operations against criminal networks will persist to improve public safety and recover stolen property. While overall robbery cases have seen a slight decrease, aggravated and cash-related robberies remain a significant concern in the Kampala Metropolitan areas.
