Archbishop Kaziimba Optimistic About Lweza Centre's Readiness for 2027 Global South Assembly

The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, recently toured the Lweza Training and Conference Centre to assess its preparedness for the upcoming Global South Fellowship of Anglicans (GSFA) General Assembly, slated for April 13-17, 2027.

During the visit, Archbishop Kaziimba inspected newly completed accommodation facilities, part of expansion efforts that have been ongoing at the centre. These developments are seen as crucial for hosting the significant international religious gathering, which is anticipated to draw delegates from across the Global South Anglican community.

Archbishop Kaziimba conveyed his impressment with the pace and quality of the construction work. “I am impressed by the speed and professionalism demonstrated in the construction of this project. We are committed to transforming Lweza Training and Conference Centre into a world-class provider of hospitality services while strengthening its original mandate as a premier training and conference facility,” he stated.

The centre has a track record of hosting major international events, including previous Global South Bishops’ training conferences. The Church of Uganda views hosting the 2027 General Assembly as a testament to its organizational capabilities.

Rev. Andrew Agaba, Director of Household and Community Transformation, provided an update on the construction, noting that the ongoing works are at the roofing stage and are projected for completion by the end of next month, significantly enhancing the centre’s capacity for the 2027 event.

The Global South Fellowship of Anglicans General Assembly serves as a pivotal forum for Anglican church leaders to deliberate on matters of doctrine, mission, and global partnerships within the wider Anglican Communion.
