Emmanuel Lumala Dombo, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Director of Communication and Publicity, has actively engaged with residents of Kalangala District, particularly on Buggala Island. During a mobilization campaign at Kaazi-Malanga Landing Site, Dombo implored voters to cast their ballots for the NRM’s candidate, Idah Nabayiga, in the forthcoming Woman Member of Parliament by-election.
Dombo commended the district’s populace for their historical support of the NRM, highlighting the importance of electing a representative from the ruling party to enhance lobbying for government programs. He assured residents that concerns raised regarding the fishing sector, access to clean water, and conduct of local leaders would be addressed by the party leadership.
In a significant turn, Dombo publicly recanted his previous opposition to the introduction of oil palm cultivation in Kalangala. He admitted that his stance had been influenced by environmental critics, including the late former Rubaga South MP Ken Lukyamuzi, who feared ecological damage. Dombo stated his intention to apologize to President Museveni for this past opposition, acknowledging that the predicted negative environmental impacts had not materialized and that the project had demonstrably improved the economic well-being of the district.
“Since the palm oil came, haven’t lives improved?” he asked the gathered residents, who responded positively. Dombo encouraged a united front, likening support for the NRM to boarding a bus driven by the party, urging all passengers and conductors to be NRM aligned.
He also extended an appeal to NRM supporters to warmly welcome individuals returning from opposition parties, such as the National Unity Platform (NUP), encouraging them to integrate these members and work together to expand the party’s base. The NRM mobilisation efforts extended to other parishes within the district as the party seeks to solidify its support ahead of the by-election.
