Real Madrid has secured the signature of highly-rated midfielder Bernardo Silva on a free transfer. The 31-year-old Portuguese international has agreed to a two-year deal with the Spanish giants, marking a significant addition to their squad.

Silva’s departure from Manchester City concludes a nine-year tenure marked by numerous trophies. While his next destination was a subject of speculation, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid also reportedly interested, he has opted for a move to the capital.

This move makes Silva Real Madrid’s second acquisition of the summer transfer window. He follows defender Marc Cucurella, who joined the club in a separate deal. The team is looking to bolster its ranks after a disappointing previous season where they failed to secure any silverware, finishing a distant second in La Liga and exiting the Champions League at the quarter-final stage.

Currently representing Portugal in the World Cup, Silva is expected to be a key player for his national team. Real Madrid is reportedly not done with their transfer business, with continued interest in Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries and Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate also linked with moves to the club. Meanwhile, Antonio Rudiger has committed his future to Real Madrid by signing an extension until 2027.
